To help combat the spread of influenza, we are offering complimentary flu shots to all our valued members as recommended by the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand and the World Health Organization. The vaccination is especially important for children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing medical conditions. While this preventative measure is recommended for everyone, please consult your doctor first.

The complimentary flu vaccination will be available between 14th May – 15th Sep 2024 at participating hospitals.

Important notes about our free flu shot initiative.

  • This offer is only available to AAGI members with an active health insurance policy.
  • This offer is non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash or other services.
  • The vaccination will involve a single injection for each member.
  • Any additional hospital costs (aside from the influenza vaccination) are not the responsibility of AAGI and must be borne by the member.
  • For children younger than 9 years old, other pediatric fees may be incurred. This may arise if the treating doctor recommends a physical examination or more than one injection. Any additional pediatric fees are not the responsibility of AAGI and must be borne by the member.
  • This vaccination may not be suitable for pregnant/breastfeeding women and members with egg allergies as well as those belonging to a high-risk group. Please consult with the treating doctor prior to receiving the vaccination.

1. What is the name/type of Vaccination offered?

Name: Vaxigrip Tetra , Type: 4-strain Southern hemisphere Influenza Vaccine

2. What will AAGI cover?

AAGI will cover the vaccination only.

3. Where can I receive the vaccine?

You can only receive the vaccine at the above 92 participating hospitals.

4. If I get the same vaccine at a non-participating hospital, can I pay and get reimbursed later?

No, eligible members can only receive the complimentary vaccine at one of the participating hospitals listed above.

5. How many injections will be covered by AAGI?

1. Injection for adults and children aged over 9 years.

2. injections for children aged between 6 months and 9 years who have never been vaccinated before.

6. I was vaccinated in 2023 through an AAGI campaign. Do I need to be vaccinated again?

It is recommended that you get vaccinated again as this is a new vaccine, which covers different strains.

7. Is this offer transferrable?

This offer is non-transferable. The complimentary    4-strain influenza vaccination is only available to eligible members who have received a unique redemption code.

8. I have more than one policy. Can I receive more than one injection?

This initiative offers only a single injection for each member.

9. If complications arise from the vaccination, will AAGI cover my additional medical expenses?

 

AAGI will not be liable for any additional medical expenses relating to the vaccination, except where members have outpatient benefits on their AAGI policy. In these circumstances, they may be able to claim additional costs from their AAGI policy.

10. If members aged 9 and under require a physical examination, who will be responsible for the additional medical charges?

Any additional hospital service charges and doctor fees which relate to the vaccination are the responsibility of the member.

1. What is the vaccination process?

To receive the complimentary vaccine at participating hospitals, please show your specific code together with your ID card.

2. Can additional medical costs be claimed under my outpatient (OPD) benefit?

Any additional hospital costs that arise are not the responsibility of AAGI and must be paid for by members except where members have outpatient benefits on their AAGI policy. In these circumstances, they may be able to claim additional costs from their AAGI policy.

3. Can I receive the vaccination 24/7?

Policy holder must receive the vaccination at the hospital’s operation hours. Failing to do this will result in normal rates being charged.

4. Can I receive the vaccine after 15th Sep 2024?

The complimentary vaccinations are offered to our valued customers from 14th May to 15th Sep 2024. This covers the rainy season in Thailand, a period that presents a higher risk of contracting influenza.

5. Can I receive the vaccine on the weekend?

Some of our participating hospitals offer weekend hours. Members can only receive the vaccination at the participating hospitals during the hours stated above. Failing to do this will result in charges that will need to be borne by the member.

6. Can I receive the vaccine if my policy is outstanding subscription /Outstanding Shortfall?

No

7. Can I receive the vaccine if I was suspend for renewal fees?

Yes, If suspend for renewal fees is not due, and still current policy is active during vaccination campaign at 92 participating hospitals as shown in the list above.

1. To which part of the body will the Vaccination administer?

The vaccination will be administered on your upper arm (deltoid region) or upper thigh.

2. When will the immunization become active?

Around 2-3 weeks after the injection.

3. What are the possible side effects?

Side effects are unlikely, but may include

 - headache, dizziness or fainting, muscle aches

 - Fever, pruritus

 - soreness, redness and swelling from the injection

 - hematoma from the injection

 - nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and/or stomachache

4. Can I receive the vaccine when I have a cold?

You can receive the vaccination when you have a cold as long as you don’t have fever. In case of fever, the vaccination will be postponed.

5. If I have an allergy to another flu vaccine, can I still take the Vaxigrip  Tetra?

No

6. Can pregnant women receive the Vaxigrip Tetra vaccination?

There is no research on negative effects of Vaxigrip Tetra in pregnant women; however it is recommended that you speak with a doctor prior to receiving the vaccination.

7. Can breast feeding women receive the Vaxigrip Tetra?

There is no research on the effect of Vaxigrip Tetra in breast feeding women. It is recommended to contact a physician prior to the vaccination.

8. If I have an underlying condition, can I receive the Vaxigrip Tetra?

There are no restrictions for any underlying conditions apart from Guillain-Barre syndrome. If you have this condition, please let your treating doctor know and they will provide a recommendation.

9. Can I receive flu vaccination for northern strains?

WHO is recommended composition of influenza vaccine for use in 2024 Thailand is, Southern influenza strain.

10. If I have an egg allergy, can I receive the vaccine?

 Please let your treating doctor know and they will provide a recommendation.

11. What influenza strains does the vaccination protect against?

The vaccination protects against the following influenza strains;

 - an A/Victoria/4897/2022 (H1N1) pdm09-like strain

 - an A/Thailand/8/2022 (H3N2)-like strain

 - a B/Austria/1359417/2021 (B/Victoria lineage)-like strain

 - a B/Phuket/3073/2013 (B/Yamagata lineage)-like strain
